Pieces of Me: How Life Becomes Art

Pieces of Me: How Life Becomes Art

Finding Peace in the Everyday

Today I want to share what I've been thinking about lately. How often do we treat art like something that happens after real life is completed? You know, something we get to once the dishes are done, the family has everything they need, and the house feels calm enough to begin.

I have been making big adjustments in my life since turning 50, just over a year ago, and I'm discovering art shouldn't be waiting for us at the end of the list.

I asked myself, 'What if it's woven right through it?' Art is hidden in the quiet rituals that steady us, in the meals that nourish us, and in the small choices that remind us who we are.

This past year has taught me many things, and the biggest lesson is that every moment, when lived with awareness, becomes a brushstroke in a bigger painting called life.

Morning Rituals and Homemade Gratitude

Take this morning, for example. I stirred together a little homemade pumpkin spice creamer (recipe below), and as I whisked the frothy goodness in, it hit me: this too, is art. Not the kind that hangs on a wall, but the kind that awakens the soul: the way scent brings memory, how warmth quiets the noise, and how choosing to make something by hand reminds us of our own creative power.

Pumpkin Spice Creamer (my simple & low sugar version):

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ⅓ cup pumpkin purée
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger)
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3-5 Tbsp powdered Monk Fruit sweetener or 1-2 Tbsp real maple syrup or honey (each sweetener will yield very different results, so start with a light amount and add more to taste).

I add everything except the heavy cream to my mini bullet blender (I begin with 3 Tbsp of monkfruit sweetener. It will taste a bit sweeter but remember once added to coffee that sweetness goes away) and give a few pulses. Then I add the heavy cream and whip everything together. You don't want to whip it too long as your heavy cream will thicken. Store in a glass jar, giving it a gentle shake each morning, as the spices will settle.

Side note: Be sure to use powdered monk fruit, as granules will remain gritty; you want it to be smooth.

Pour into your morning coffee and take a slow sip. Another favorite is a decaf iced latte mid-afternoon - so yummy! And that's the simple creative act, a reminder that peace starts small, even with a cup of coffee and the season's favorite pumpkin spice.

The Story of Soulful Circle:

A couple of weeks ago, I gathered a few lovely women, and together we sat around a simple folding table covered in random art supplies. This, my sweet friend, is how the Soulful Circle was born. I watched women of all ages and walks of life pause their busy days for just two hours to breathe, to make a little mess, to see what beauty might unfold when they let go of expectation.

It was beautiful. You know why?

Because no one was rushing to finish a project.

No one was trying to get it "right."

No one worried about comparison or perfection.

We simply showed up and created and were. In that being said, something shifted for us all. I sat with a friend over coffee, and we discussed the first circle, discovering that when we make space for play, our hearts remember who they are, and our creative souls start to dance again.

That's why I believe in this way of creating so deeply. It's not about mastering a technique. It's about learning to live with open hands and hearts.

The Soulful Circle is now a monthly gathering available to you via Zoom, held on the fourth Thursday evening of each month, with occasional Saturday morning sessions for those who crave a slower, sacred start to the weekend or find themselves drawn to a morning space.

Each circle is a gentle creative reset: time to breathe, explore color, and remember who you are.

If this speaks to you, I'd love for you to join me.

You can read more about the next circle and reserve your seat here. As I write this post, I am holding my first Zoom session this evening, and you may just get in on tonight's circle!

And because you're part of my wild-hearted community, use the code WILDHEART35 for 35% off your seat this month.

Come as you are. Leave a little lighter, a little freer, and a little more in tune with your creative soul.

Pieces of Me - Where the Adventure Begins

As I have been on this last trip around the sun, I've been reflecting on the phrase Pieces of Me.

To me, it means honoring how everything —our health, our home, our faith, our laughter, even our tears —weaves together to form a whole. Every color we're drawn to, every word we underline, every small ritual we repeat, it all finds a way into our art.

When I live intentionally, I create more freely.

When I nourish my body, my creativity flows.

When I find stillness, I can finally hear what wants to be expressed.

Deep inside, I feel that this is how I process life - in art, and life is what gives art its voice.

In a few weeks, I'll be opening something close to my heart. It's a place where we gather our fragments, paint our prayers, and tell our story - Pieces of Me: Personal Reflection Flags. Ha, I told you I had a lot going on and changes happening in the studio!

But seriously, this course is a gentle mixed-media workshop that invites you to gather the fragments of your story- words, fabrics, colors, prayers and stitch them together into small, sacred flags that whisper truth and hope over your home.

I started making these during a season when words were hard to find. I read about traditional Tibetan Prayer Flags and couldn't shake the deep desire to explore this idea. Tibetan prayer flags have been used for centuries across the Himalayas as symbols of peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. Traditionally, they are printed with mantras, prayers, and sacred symbols. As the wind passes through the fabric, it is believed to carry the prayers and blessings out into the world, spreading goodwill and harmony to all beings. Tell me that doesn't sound like something deeply needed at this moment. For me, each flag became a prayer, a promise, a piece of peace.

This workshop is about giving shape to your story, one small fragment and luscious layer at a time. If you'd like to join me on this journey, you can sign up for the waitlist here to be among the first to know when doors open. You'll get early-bird access, behind-the-scenes inspiration, and a few creative prompts to begin gathering your pieces.

Your Life Is the Canvas

If you remember one thing this week, let it be this:

You don't need more time to make art; you just need to see your life as art. Think about it this way. The meals you make. The clothes you adorn yourself in. The words you pray. The walks you take. The laughter you make. The colors that call to you. They're all part of your masterpiece.

So light the candle. Pour the creamer. Pick up the brush.

You're creating something sacred one piece at a time.

With love and gratitude,

Amy 🌼
